Where I Belong: A Poem About Belonging Without Losing Yourself

Where I Belong: A Poem About Belonging Without Losing Yourself

A poem about belonging without losing yourself

There are certain themes that keep appearing in our lives until we are ready to see them differently.

For me, belonging is one of them.

This month, the Akara Numerology energy brings together a beautiful tension: the courage to fully be yourself and the deep human longing to connect with others.

The October field carries 10, 8 and 10 — inviting us to stand in our own light, honour our energy and listen to what we truly know.

And underneath that, there is a strong current of 2 energy.

The longing to belong.

To connect.

To be loved.

To feel that there is a place for us.

But the deeper question is:

Can I belong without losing myself?

Because sometimes we learn to belong by adapting.

We say yes when we mean no.
We make ourselves smaller.
We become what is needed.
We give more than we have.
We stay because something is familiar.

And sometimes we call that love.

Sometimes we call that home.

The deeper October calculations bring another beautiful invitation: perhaps what we have considered our foundation isn't necessarily our true foundation.

Sometimes it is simply the place where we learned to stand.

And that is where this poem came from.

WHERE I BELONG

There is a place
I have been searching for
all my life.

A place where I am wanted.
A place where I am understood.
A place where I can be
exactly who I am.

I thought belonging
was something I had to find.

So I learned to adapt.
To soften my edges.
To say yes.
To become what was needed.

And sometimes
I called that love.

Sometimes
I called that home.

But what if home
is not the place
where I learned to fit?

What if home
is the place inside me
where I no longer have to?

There comes a moment
when I stop trying to fit
and simply stand
as myself.

Not to prove myself.
Not to be admired.

But because
I finally see myself.

I let my light
be exactly as bright
as it is.

Not smaller
so someone else can shine.

Not louder
so someone else will notice.

Just true.

And underneath the light
there is breath.

Life moving through me.

A reminder that power
does not have to mean pushing.

That giving
does not have to mean depletion.

Let my energy
belong to me.

And still,
there is that tender longing
to belong.

Do not shame that longing.

It is beautiful.

But don't abandon yourself
to satisfy it.

I can belong
without losing myself.

I can love
without leaving myself.

I can say yes
with my whole heart.

And I can say no
with the same love.

Because not every place
that feels familiar
is home.

Not every role
I have learned to play
is who I am.

Sometimes
what I call my foundation
is simply where I learned
to stand.

So I ask myself:

What is actually mine?

What gives me life?

Where can I breathe?

Where can I be fully myself
without performing
for belonging?

Where does my body soften
because it knows:

I am safe here.

I am welcome here.

I do not have to earn
my place here.

Perhaps the greatest belonging
is not being accepted
by everyone.

Perhaps it is
finally accepting myself.

Standing in my own light.

Breathing my own breath.

Listening to my own heart.

And coming home.

Not to a place.

Not to a person.

Not to a role.

But to myself.

And discovering:

I was never
outside the circle.

I was always
part of it.

I was always
home.

A question to take with you

Perhaps you don't need to immediately change anything.

Just notice.

Where are you still adapting in order to belong?

Where are you saying yes because you're afraid that no might cost you connection?

Where are you giving your energy away because being needed feels like being loved?

And perhaps most importantly:

Where can you be completely yourself and simply breathe?

That might be where you begin to discover what home really means.

If these words speak to you...

Share this poem with someone who might need to hear it.

Someone who is learning to say no.

Someone who is finding their voice.

Someone who has outgrown a place, a role or an old version of themselves.

Or simply someone who needs the reminder:

You don't have to become someone else to belong.

And if you want to explore the deeper October energy, we took this theme into our October Inner Circle workshop, where we worked with the personal month calculation, the October numbers and the deeper Asset, Heart, Base and Transformer energies. Join the inner circle for the replay.

Because numerology isn't only about understanding numbers.

It can become a mirror.

A way of asking better questions.

A way of seeing the patterns that shape how we live, lead, love and belong.

And perhaps the most important question for this month is simply:

Can I fully be myself — and still belong?

I am fully myself.
And I belong exactly as I am.
